What a dental implant involves, from first scan to final crown
An implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone, where it takes the place of a tooth's root. Once the bone has healed around it, a crown is attached. Because the process depends on healing, it is measured in months rather than visits. A typical course:
- Consultation and 3D scan. A cone-beam CT scan shows bone height and width, nerves and sinuses, so the implant can be planned precisely.
- Preparation, if needed. A failing tooth is removed, and bone grafting rebuilds areas where bone has been lost.
- Placement. The implant is placed under local anesthetic.
- Healing. The bone bonds to the implant over a period of months. A temporary replacement can often fill the gap in the meantime.
- The crown. A custom porcelain crown is made to match the teeth beside it, and attached.
Every office plans implants the same way
Each Anthem office has cone-beam CT imaging, and Dr. Henry Abraham plans and places implants at all three. Because the course involves several visits over several months, most patients choose the office that is easiest to reach and whose hours fit:
- Menifee — Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM.
- Temecula — Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 7 PM.
- Moreno Valley — Monday 10 AM to 5 PM and Tuesday through Friday 9 AM to 5 PM.
Is an implant always the answer?
No. A bridge can be a good choice when the teeth on either side already need crowns, and some health conditions or habits — uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking — affect how well bone heals around an implant. The consultation covers the alternatives honestly, with costs for each in writing.
Paying for it
Dental plans vary widely in how they treat implants — some contribute toward part of the work, others very little.
