How Medi-Cal Dental works
Using your Medi-Cal dental benefits — the practical details
Medi-Cal Dental (still widely called Denti-Cal) is the dental part of Medi-Cal, run by the California Department of Health Care Services. According to the state's own member handbook, most people who qualify for Medi-Cal also have dental benefits, and there is no separate application for them. You can choose any Medi-Cal dental provider — all three Anthem offices accept it.
What to bring
Bring your Medi-Cal Benefits Identification Card (BIC) and a photo ID such as a driver's license or state ID. The handbook notes that an expired photo ID is accepted for up to six months past its expiration date. If you also have other dental coverage, bring that card too.
How often checkups are covered
Under the handbook's schedule, checkups are covered every six months for members under 21 and every 12 months for members 21 and older. Sealants on permanent molars are covered for children and teens under 21, and in some cases children up to age six can have exams, cleanings and fluoride up to four times a year. Members are also covered during pregnancy and for 12 months after.

- Temecula — Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 7 PM.
- Moreno Valley (Canyon Springs) — Monday 10 AM to 5 PM and Tuesday through Friday 9 AM to 5 PM.
Whichever you choose, the front desk checks your eligibility with your BIC and ID, and Dr. Henry Abraham explains what Medi-Cal covers for your treatment before it starts. If something you want is not a covered benefit, you will be told that plainly — and the cost — before you decide. If you need to cancel, the handbook asks members to call at least a day ahead.
