The Canyon Springs area, mapped
Canyon Springs was planned by the City of Riverside as a mixed-use district — the Canyon Springs Specific Plan was first adopted in 1984 — at the far eastern edge of the city, in the southeast corner where Interstate 215 meets State Route 60. Canyon Springs Parkway runs through it. The city's plan describes its surroundings this way:
- North, across the 60: the Canyon Springs Plaza shopping center, which is in the City of Moreno Valley, and beyond it the slopes of Box Springs Mountain Regional Park.
- East, across Day Street: the Towngate development, also in Moreno Valley.
- South: the established Edgemont community and Edgemont Elementary School.
- West, across I-215: the Sycamore Canyon Business Park.
The plan routes traffic into the district from the freeway interchanges at Day Street (on the 60) and Eucalyptus Avenue (on I-215), and it groups shops, restaurants, offices and a medical campus inside it — which is why a dental visit here can be combined with errands in the same stop.
