The Anthem approach

The deep grooves of back teeth are where toothbrush bristles can't reach and where most childhood cavities start. Sealants close those grooves with a smooth, invisible barrier that keeps food and bacteria out.

Applied in minutes without drilling or numbing, sealants can reduce molar decay by up to 80% — a small step with an outsized payoff.

Sealants and fluoride treatment work well together but serve different jobs: fluoride strengthens the enamel across every tooth surface, while a sealant physically seals off the deep pits and grooves of a specific molar where a toothbrush bristle can't reach. Because Dr. Henry Abraham sees patients of every age at this practice, sealants are offered to both children and adults with cavity-prone grooves — not just as a pediatric-only service.

Sealants are commonly covered as preventive care for eligible Denti-Cal and IEHP patients — we verify your specific plan's coverage before your visit.

FAQ

Dental Sealants — your questions, answered.

At what age should kids get sealants?

Ideally soon after the permanent molars erupt — around age 6 for first molars and age 12 for second molars.

Can adults get sealants?

Yes. Adults with deep, cavity-prone grooves and no existing fillings in those teeth are excellent candidates.

How long do sealants last?

Typically 5–10 years. We check them at every exam and can touch them up easily if needed.

Are sealants covered by Denti-Cal or IEHP?

Sealants are commonly covered as a preventive benefit for eligible patients under Medi-Cal Dental (Denti-Cal) and IEHP, though exact coverage depends on your specific plan and eligibility. We verify your benefits before treatment and give you a clear estimate, so there are no surprises.

Sealants or fluoride treatment — what's the difference?

Fluoride strengthens enamel across all your teeth and can even reverse very early decay. A sealant is a physical barrier placed only on the deep grooves of a specific molar, where cavities most often start. Many patients benefit from both, and we'll recommend what fits your specific risk of decay.

Are baby teeth eligible for sealants?

Sometimes — if a baby molar has deep, cavity-prone grooves and will be in place for several more years, a sealant can help protect it. As a general dentist who sees children and adults alike, Dr. Henry Abraham will tell you plainly whether a sealant makes sense for a particular tooth, baby or permanent.

What to expect before you book

If you have not been to one of our offices before, what happens at a first visit walks through the whole appointment step by step — what we look at, what it costs, and what we will never do without telling you first. Walk-ins are welcome at every office, though calling ahead means less waiting.

Dental Sealants is performed in-house, so nothing here is referred out to a stranger across town. Meet the team who would be treating you, and read how the practice works if you want the fuller picture. We are in-network with the major PPO plans and also accept Medi-Cal Dental (Denti-Cal) and IEHP — see the full list and what it means for your bill.

Choose whichever office is easiest for you: all 3 are here, each with its own hours, parking and directions.
