The Anthem approach

We fight for every tooth. But when a tooth is too damaged or decayed to save — or is crowding out an otherwise healthy smile — removing it cleanly and comfortably protects everything around it.

Dr. Henry Abraham performs extractions with modern anesthetic techniques and a famously light touch. Before we remove anything, we discuss replacement options like implants and bridges, so there's a plan for what comes next.

Most extractions at Anthem Dental are simple extractions — a tooth that's fully visible above the gumline is gently loosened and removed in one piece. Teeth that are broken at the gumline, impacted, or have curved or fragile roots sometimes require a surgical extraction, where a small amount of gum tissue or bone is carefully accessed to remove the tooth in sections. Both are done under complete local anesthesia, and imaging tells us in advance which approach your tooth needs.

In sudden pain from a badly damaged or infected tooth? Visit our emergency dentist page for what to do next — we do our best to see patients in pain the same day.

FAQ

Tooth Extractions — your questions, answered.

Does getting a tooth pulled hurt?

You'll feel pressure but not pain. We numb the area completely and check that it is fully numb before starting. Most patients are surprised how quickly it's over.

How long is recovery?

Initial healing takes a few days; most patients return to normal routines within 48 hours. We'll give you simple, clear aftercare instructions.

Do I have to replace an extracted tooth?

Usually, yes — neighboring teeth drift into the gap and bone shrinks over time. Implants, bridges, and partials all work well, and we'll help you choose calmly.

What does an extraction cost?

It depends on whether the tooth needs a simple or surgical extraction, and on your insurance. We verify your benefits and give you a clear written estimate before anything is scheduled — our $125 new patient exam and X-rays are often the affordable first step toward that answer.

What's the difference between a simple and a surgical extraction?

A simple extraction removes a tooth that's fully visible above the gumline. A surgical extraction is needed when a tooth is broken at the gumline, impacted, or has roots that make it harder to remove whole — it involves carefully accessing the tooth through the gum or bone. Imaging tells us which one your tooth needs before we ever begin.

Can I be seen the same day if I need an extraction?

If you're in pain, call us — we do our best to see patients in pain the same day and keep time in the schedule for it. See our emergency dentist page for what to do if you're dealing with a sudden toothache or a badly damaged tooth.

What to expect before you book

If you have not been to one of our offices before, what happens at a first visit walks through the whole appointment step by step — what we look at, what it costs, and what we will never do without telling you first. Walk-ins are welcome at every office, though calling ahead means less waiting.

Tooth Extractions is performed in-house, so nothing here is referred out to a stranger across town. Meet the team who would be treating you, and read how the practice works if you want the fuller picture. We are in-network with the major PPO plans and also accept Medi-Cal Dental (Denti-Cal) and IEHP — see the full list and what it means for your bill.

Choose whichever office is easiest for you: all 3 are here, each with its own hours, parking and directions.
