The Anthem approach

Gum disease is quiet. It doesn't hurt at first — it just slowly loosens the ground your teeth stand on. Nearly half of adults over 30 have some form of it, and it's the leading cause of adult tooth loss.

We treat gum disease at every stage: scaling and root planing to eliminate infection below the gumline, soft-tissue laser therapy for gentler healing, and surgical options for advanced cases. Caught early, it's fully manageable — and we're very good at catching it early.

A periodontal evaluation is charted at every routine exam, so most gum disease is caught long before a patient notices anything. Risk factors like smoking, diabetes, and teeth grinding can accelerate it, which is why we also evaluate bite forces as part of periodontal care — patients being treated for bruxism, for example, often benefit from a closer look at their gum health at the same visit.

  • Comprehensive gum evaluation at every exam
  • Soft-tissue laser therapy for gentler treatment
  • Scaling & root planing that stops disease progression
  • Protects against tooth loss and systemic health risks

FAQ

Periodontal Treatment — your questions, answered.

What are the signs of gum disease?

Bleeding when you brush or floss, persistent bad breath, receding gums, and tenderness. In later stages, teeth may loosen or shift. Bleeding gums are never normal.

Is a deep cleaning painful?

We numb the areas being treated, so the procedure itself is comfortable. Mild tenderness afterward fades within a day or two.

What is scaling and root planing?

It's a deep cleaning that removes plaque and tartar from below the gumline and smooths the tooth roots so the gums can heal and reattach. It's usually done over one or two comfortably numbed visits.

Can gum disease be cured?

Gingivitis — the early stage — is fully reversible. Established periodontitis can't be cured but can be stopped and controlled for life with treatment and maintenance.

How often will I need periodontal maintenance?

After active treatment, most patients move to a cleaning every three to four months rather than the standard six — the interval that keeps bacteria from rebuilding below the gumline.

Is gum disease linked to my overall health?

Yes. Research connects periodontal disease with heart disease, diabetes, and other systemic conditions, so caring for your gums supports more than your smile.

Can gum disease really cause tooth loss?

It's the leading cause of adult tooth loss — it quietly destroys the bone that holds teeth in place. Caught early it's very manageable, which is why we screen for it at every exam.

What to expect before you book

If you have not been to one of our offices before, what happens at a first visit walks through the whole appointment step by step — what we look at, what it costs, and what we will never do without telling you first. Walk-ins are welcome at every office, though calling ahead means less waiting.

Periodontal Treatment is performed in-house, so nothing here is referred out to a stranger across town. Meet the team who would be treating you, and read how the practice works if you want the fuller picture. We are in-network with the major PPO plans and also accept Medi-Cal Dental (Denti-Cal) and IEHP — see the full list and what it means for your bill.

Choose whichever office is easiest for you: all 3 are here, each with its own hours, parking and directions.
