When teeth are lost, the jawbone beneath begins to quietly resorb — which is why patients are sometimes told they 'don't have enough bone' for implants. Bone grafting changes that answer.

Using biocompatible grafting materials and guided regeneration techniques, we rebuild bone volume where it's been lost — after extractions to preserve the socket, or years later to reverse resorption. Months later, the site is ready to hold an implant for decades.

Socket preservation is the simplest and most common form of grafting we do — placed at the same visit as an extraction, before bone has a chance to shrink. Larger reconstructive grafts, for patients who've been missing teeth for years, take longer to integrate but can still open the door to an implant that once seemed off the table.

Bone Grafting — your questions, answered.

Is bone grafting painful?

Far less than it sounds. Most grafts are minor procedures under local anesthesia, with a day or two of mild soreness.

How long until I can get my implant?

Minor grafts may integrate in 3–4 months; larger reconstructions can take 6 or more. Some cases allow grafting and implant placement on the same day.

Where does the graft material come from?

We typically use processed, rigorously sterilized biocompatible material — no second surgical site needed. We'll explain the exact material recommended for your case.

How do I know if I need a bone graft before an implant?

A 3D CT scan tells us definitively how much bone volume you have. If it's not quite enough to support an implant safely, grafting is usually the answer — and it makes implants possible for many patients who initially don't qualify.

What's recovery like after a bone graft?

Most patients manage with over-the-counter pain relief and a day or two of mild swelling. We'll give you specific aftercare instructions, and follow up to confirm the site is healing as expected.

Is bone grafting always needed before a dental implant?

No — many patients have plenty of bone already and go straight to implant placement. Grafting is only recommended when 3D imaging shows the bone volume genuinely needs rebuilding first.
